Fact 1 Though the country has three dominant tribes, Hausa- Fulani, Yoruba and the Ibo (Igbo), there are over 250 ethnic groups. Fact 2 Nigeria derives her name from the Niger River which is the largest and the longest river in West Africa and spans around 4,180 kms. Fact 3 The Nigerian movie industry which produces between 150-200 movies very week is known as Nollywood is ranked as the world’s second-largest producer of movies and trails just behind the Indian Bollywood industry. Fact 4 It is believed that areas surrounding Cross State River and Calabar towards the south of Nigeria are home to the largest diversity of butterflies in the world Fact 5 The Niger and the Benue are Nigeria’s main rivers. They converge empty their waters into the Niger Delta. The sheer size of these two rivers makes this delta one of the largest in the world Fact 6 Two of the world’s rarest species of animals live in the mysterious Nigerian forests- the Drill monkey that lives in the Afi Mountain ranges and the lowland Gorilla. Fact 7 This country is known for its ‘twin genes”. Nigeria has the highest twin birth-rate in the world. Fact 8 : After Egypt, this country is known to have one of the largest newspaper markets in the world. Several million copies of newsprint are sold here everyday. Fact 9 : Nigeria has always been among the top five cocoa bean producing countries in the world. In 2013 it stands in 5th place and produces around 210 thousand tons. Fact 10 : The 50,000 seater ‘Faith Tabernacle” of Winners Chapel Churches is the largest church auditorium in the world. Its 2008 Guinness Book world record has not been broken even in 2013.
